Getting Ready for the School Year

Wednesday and Thursday have been set aside for meetings. Wednesday we went over the Faculty handbook --for the WHOLE day. It has to be done, but is not much fun!

This morning 3 of my colleagues and I made a presentation of a workshop we had attended. We informed the faculty of the IAT committee and the RTI systems that we will use this year. That's the Intervention Assistants Team and the Response to Intervention. These are procedures which are laws and mandates from national, state and local agencies to make sure all students who are at risk get the help they need.

Part of the presentation was about Larry Bell's 12 powerful words. We all really enjoyed this man's presentation. He was very inspiring and we hope to put many of his ideas into use this school year.

I straightened up my room - put the book baskets on the shelves, put up my Grammar Wall and decided on some poems to teach the kids the first week of school. Tomorrow will be a day away from school for a GT workshop. (Gifted and Talented) Every teacher has to have a GT certification and then has to have 6 hours inservice each year as an update to that certification. Hopefully, it will be interesting.
